| At
ARC, our fabricated solutions
fall into four categories:
Access Ramps, Platforms/Landings,
Steps and Modular Ramps
|

| Access
Ramps : |
All
of our ramps are designed
to conform with current
building standards ‘Part
M’ of the Building
Regulations (‘Part
R’ N.Ireland) and
are designed in accordance
with BS: 8300:2001 Code
of Practice. We can cater
for almost any length of
ramp, depending on the customers’
particular needs, and the
gradient required. The choice
of ramp width will relate
to the intensity of use:
for example, an unobstructed
width of 1800 mm is the
minimum that permits two
wheelchair users to pass
each other.
Depending on the building
type, standard features
include:
- 1200 – 1500
mm unobstructed clearance
between handrails
- 45mm comfortable to
grip circular handrails,
which extend 300mm beyond
the top and bottom of
the ramp, terminating
in a closed end
- 100mm high kerbed
upstand, contrasting
in colour from the ramp
surface
- Minimum of 1:12 Gradient
(for ramps of no more
than 2 metres in length)
|
| Platforms/Landings: |
Our
range of platforms can be
manufactured to suite any
requirement, from residential
to commercial. Turning platforms
measuring 1200mm x 1200mm
are generally provided in
circumstances where ramped
access to an entrance is
not possible due to either
a lack of space, or alternatively
is hindered by an obstruction.
In such cases a turning
platform can be used to
provide an access point
between the ramp and building.
Where the going of a ramp
exceeds 6000mm, we suggest
the use of an intermediate
landing of 1500mm in length.
Turning platforms and intermediate
landings can be painted
as to contrast in colour
from the ramp surface. This
makes the change in level
distinguishable for people
with visual impairments.

Steps:
|
As
some ambulant disabled people
have difficulty using ramps,
it is sometimes desirable
for steps to be provided
also in the approach to
a building.
In such circumstances, we
manufacture a range of step
options. Our non-slip steps
incorporate the following
standard features: |
- Colour
contrasting nosings
- Step risings 150mm
- 170mm
- Designed in accordance
with BS 5395 -1
- Step threads available
in a range of colours
- Where dirt/debris
may be a problem, threads
can be perforated to
ease cleaning
- All treads are made
from our unique flooring,
thus optimizing grip
and non-slip performance

Modular
Ramps : |
We
have recently launched our
new Modular Ramp Systems.
As well as having cost-saving
advantages over concrete
installations, these ramps,
platforms and steps will
allow the customer to remove,
relocate or modify the applications
should the use or configuration
of the building change.
The major advantage of our
new modular free-standing
design is that it is possible
to be incorporated over
existing steps. This is
quicker, causes less disruption
and is less expensive than
using the conventional bricks
and mortar construction.
Our modular systems also
offer clients the opportunity
of being able to access
the home-place quickly and
safely, without having to
carry out any groundwork
or structural changes to
the premises. Another advantage
that our ramps and platforms
offer is that they can be
perforated where specified,
ensuring that water retention
and the associated hazards
that this incurs are avoided.
The ramps and platforms
are fixed firmly to the
ground or wall by a simple
yet secure bolting devise
which ensures that they
cannot be removed unless
required.
The key strength of our
products lies in the unique
flooring system which forms
a superb aluminium surface
that will not rust or wear,
and so maintains the excellent
aesthetic qualities throughout
the lifetime of the ramp.
It also ensures glue-like
forward and sideward traction
underfoot. |
